As a skilled Set Designer of the Brussels opera Robert Dusarduyn started a rental shop in props in the Jordaan*; from there his career as a collector in Arts & Crafts started off. In 1975 he and his partner got the opportunity to buy two adjoining buildings from the seventeen century around the corner of the Royal Palace in Amsterdam. The buildings were in a desolate state and in need of a severe renovation. This was an opportunity for Robert and Bart to create a living above their new shop in art- deco/nouveau furniture, glassware, pottery and other decorative objects from the last decade of the nineteen century.

From there on Robert could divide his passion for Arts & Crafts in teaching and collecting. His knowledge is extensive; since his retirement as a teacher people still call for his archives in art books/ magazines and articles. Another witness of his passion is his collection of more than 10.000 pieces of furniture, glassware, pottery, lamps, tins, Bakelite, etchings and many more, stored at several houses in Amsterdam and Antwerp. The reason that we will write some more blog posts is that Robert will close his shop in near future. After 40 years of hard work, he would like to retire completely. Therefore he will sell an important part of his collections.

Since  1989 Emilie is a fan of Robert’s inspiring and decorative windows. After 20 years this source of inspiration will stop and in return we would love to help Robert out and show you some interesting collection pieces that are for sale. If you‘re interested; you can make a private appointment or you can visit the shop at the Molsteeg 5-7 on Saturdays from 11.30-18.30 hours. Click here for his website and telephone number.
