Solutions for an Amsterdam apartment

westlandgracht2 300x300 Solutions for an Amsterdam apartment

This blogpost will give an insight of one of many results of our solutions  in color | clutter | lay-out.

To get an idea of this project we will start with the best features. Typical are the sliding doors with art deco glass decoration and a large bay window. The kitchen of the former 3 room apartment has been attached to a small room in order to create a kitchen with a dining area.

Lay-out:
The problem with this idea, was the existence of just one wall to apply a kitchen unit and no other space left for cabinets. The solution was to hang up long racks for pottery and pans and to purchase a round dining table instead of a rectangular one. The bedroom is small and rectangular. To get the best out of such a space is to place the bed parallel of its length. We end with the study; it’s open and visible for guests. We eliminated the entrance & cabinet doors in the living & study in order to create the impression of a larger apartment.

Color:
The colors in the kitchen are white, combined with a painted rear wall in indigo and china blue accessories. Beige curtains with striping in marine | white and white shutters provide an intimate atmosphere and dilute the cleanliness of the kitchen unit. The walls and accessories are white in order to give the bedroom a fresh identity. This is possible for the reason that this room is headed south-east. If the room was headed north, the white would be too cool.

Clutter: To avoid the possibility of clutter, we purchased white boxes to fill the cabinet in the study. For the sake of a neat impression, we exchanged the different colored | sized filing systems for just one.
