Today Farrow & Ball launched ‘The Baroque Papers’, their latest block printed wallpaper collection. The  Baroque Papers present a three some prints with floral/vegetable patterns;Versailles is an exotic print which origins probably were hanging in one of the rooms of the Versailles estate nearby Paris.

Acanthus has a leafy upwards pattern that can make your hallway look longer. The pattern of Orangerie is very decorative and very present. But do take a look, it’s so delicate.

My Sunday became complete with a little sunshine on the terrace and a gift from Saint Tropez. On her way back from the Cote d’Azur my old class mate and dear friend bought me a copy of the April| May  edition of Maison Française and Elle à table.

A  color guide in pocket size  has been sealed with this month’s edition of the Maison Française and comes in very handy if you are looking for the right tone in yellow, green or so. I’m afraid that this pocket will not be available outside France but it’s concept is smart and to copy for your own interiors project.

If you’re planning to color your walls | woodwork | floors | ceilings, you can check out the right tone in let’s say prune (the French name for violet/mauve) by comparing the tones by different manufacturers. If you look closely to the tones you can conclude that every brand in paint has its own typical palette. The scheme by Farrow & Ball is a little more grayish then the tones by Little Green. And the palette from Dulux is brighter than that of Blancolor.

vogue entertaining and travel february march 2010 emilies colour inspirations

Last week I’ve written a post about the new colour schemes by Farrow & Ball. In it I mentioned that the novelty about the schemes is the combination of existing tones. The inspirations that resulted in the new schemes differ per designer, decorator or brand. My inspirations come from travelling, movies and cooking. I’m a fan of the Donna Hay magazines and the editions of Vogue Entertaining + Travel. In these Australian culinary bibles the dishes have been styled with an elegant simplicity and photographed in that typical down under contrast full mode. In the next following posts I would like to indulge you with some fantastic and today’s colour schemes that will inspire you to update your home for the new coming season.

Industrial

Colour palette: Industrial from F&B

Farrow & Ball

Colour palette: Aquatic from F&B

Farrow & Ball

Colour palette: Urban decay from F&B

Farrow & Ball

Colour palette: Glitz & Glamour from F&B

These are the new colour palettes by Farrow & Ball. There are some lovely blues and aubergine tones to discern. If you look carefully you’ll notice that the colours are not new. The fresh combination of each palette makes F&B fit for this new season.

A Touch of Red 3 | 3

de nijenshof A Touch of Red 3 | 3

This is a photo of the De Nijenshof lounge. Guesthouse De Nijenshof is a well decorated B&B, close to the estate The Eese. Renée and her husband Hans bought this large farm 8 years ago and renovated the buildings from top to toe. Renée is not only a wonderful host, she is a dedicated cook and has a feeling for decoration. In her spare free time she loves to search for accessories, in order to optimize the decoration of her 4 luxurious equipped suites. As a frequent guest Emilie is witnessing the development in Renée’s decoration process and is impressed by her sense for colouring. See for yourself, the Blazer Red painted beams are some eye catchers but not in a overwhelming way. Renée carefully instructed the painters to keep the wooden ceiling work untouched and to colour the beams in her favourite Farrow & Ball Red. This trick in perspectives and colouring results in an optical airy and grand image of the lounge. If she ordered to paint the ceiling work in Blazer Red the lounge would look bleak and if the painters would plaster the ceiling work white it would lose its country chic appearance. With only a few touches of Red in the accessories (lamp shades and rug) she created an intimate but fresh spirited lounge for her guests. Black lacquered Thonet

For Thonet Adolf Loos designed some furniture for the Café Museum in Vienna , that resulted in a more subtle and mature adaption of the original Thonet manufacturing techniques. Thonet became popular in the nineteen century for its optimalization of the production of bent wood furniture. Loos perfectioned the designs of the Thonet collection by moulding and stressing its natural forms, that matched with the Art Nouveau style. For the interior decoration of the Café Museum he expanded the existent Thonet colour palette with varnished red, yellow, white and black. When you are in Vienna, you could still enjoy a cup of coffee in this Café, check here for their website and their extensive info about Adolf’s Loos designs.

At this moment Robert Dusarduyn is selling a part of his black lacquered Thonet collection. He has a bench, some chairs, a dining table and a bed for sale. In the Amsterdam shop we had the possibility to make some shots of his black lacquered Thonet bench, that is in a good condition. We think that this bench will fit with The Bamboo Papers of Farrow & Ball. These originally Japanese prints from the nineteen century have been recently relaunched by this British manufacturer in paints and wall papers. Both designs (The Bamboo Papers and the Thonet bench) date from the same century and are inspired by floral forms. Therefore we like to combine them with the accent upon subtlety. The prints of The Bamboo papers can make an impact. In order to keep the interiors chic and simple, we would like suggest to pick a remarkable spot of the house for the Thonet bench and panel its back wall with one version of The Bamboo Papers. If you are not into wallpapers, than Rectory Red can be a good alternative for the setting of this beautiful black lacquered Thonet bench.

This yellowish green from Farrow & Ball*has been applied by Valentino (Italian house of fashion) in his winter/fall 09/10 collection. It operates like a chamelion. You can combine Churlish Green with vivid/ bright tones as well as with sober tones. The grey component of Churlish Green causes this multi-matching ability with other colourtones. Image this tone applied in a high ceiled and white marbled hallway with a staircase, painted in darkgrey. The products are from Mydeco. * The online colours differ from the reality.
