Sale at ABC Home
ABC Home on Broadway is my fav store for its mix & match of styles | brands and accessories. Another feature that I like is The Conran shop in the basement. This British store chain in design furniture and accessories is best for its basics and classics. The shop has been named after Sir Terence Conran, the founder of Habitat and publisher of his many food bibles and interiors books. The combination of the rather clean and crisp products of The Conran shop blends perfectly with ABC’s boho style.

ABC Rugs with Particia Urquiola table for EMU
Due to the World Soccer Cup, the first floor of ABC Home store was in African style with a Moroso display of Tord Boontjes chairs. This presentation matched really well with the Oriental | Tribal collections in fabrics, rugs, curtains etc. Hopefully you will not get tired of my love for wired furniture. Like the Emu line by Patricia Urquiola.

Wall sculpture
June 5th, 2010

From Vogue Living May June edition 2010
As a kid, brought up amidst English antiques, Sanderson & Laura Ashley flower prints and late nineteen century paintings, I did not understand the stuff that was hanging on the walls in other people’s homes. We are talking about the late seventies with bungalows, furnished conversation pits, lots of wood panels, orange earthenware and those funny sculptures on the bare brick walls. Since I’ve seen a steel wall decoration piece at Habitat’s, I’m beginning to like this kind of decoration. It’s very linear and its ads something light to your white plastered walls. The art Yabu & Pushelberg applied in their New York apartment is from another league. What you see in the visual above is a mobile sculpture by Knopp Ferro. The name of this delicate piece of art is ‘Linienschiff 18:35′. Have a look at the site of this German artist; there you can see another ‘Linienschiff’, this one from the 11:24
The catch of the week
May 14th, 2010

Let’s start with my excuses that it took a few days to catch up. My mind was boggling on the restyling of a seventies villa with 8 rooms.
This pic witnesses my lastest catch and presents a Braakman chair for Pastoe, a Tolix A-chair and the Paloma lamp base from Habitat. The red shade, the white table and the yellow ‘tabouret’ are from the French La Redoute and Carrefour (yes the XL supermarket). Tomorrow more about the catch of the week.
Habitat
May 5th, 2010

In the beginnings of this week I rushed to Antwerp in order to get Habitat inspirations for some new projects to come. I’ve always loved this retail formula and I’m still a bit pissed that it left The Netherlands in 1999. On the other hand the absence in my own country is always creating big excuses to take the Thalys for Paris or the car for Antwerp in order to experience its new lines.
In the blog post about Habitat’s heritage I referred to its founder’s vision that is to make design furniture accessible for anyone. Through the creations of known and unknown designers people can easily mix and match with different styles. Another feature I like about this brand is her belief in the unity of architecture, interiors and lifestyle. In the catalogues Habitat often displays her interiors at industrial designed homes that are styled in a tone equal to its perceived lifestyle of its imaginable inhabitants.
The visuals are scan’s from Habitat’s recent catalogue (season 09 | 10).

emilies colour scheme SS/10
In addition to my blog post about the Spring Summer 2010 colour palette, I would like to inspire you with some colouring that will spice up the rather timid tones in camel-, skin- and stones. For this blog post I’ve been browsing through my favourite websites of Habitat, Antropologie, Vitra, Tom Dixon, Liberty, KA International and made up that yellow, orange, faded pomegrate, bottle green, smoked blue and grayish aubergine are the favourite tones to combine. Have a look and see if the screen dumps of the new lines will motivate you to get your interiors ready for spring!
Satin quilts
November 17th, 2009

Although our climate is changing and our winter will start later, the nights in Amsterdam are getting colder. While I was looking for a down quilt; it became clear to me that those classics have become rare. In France they call this decorative bedspread a ‘courtepointe’. The size of a courtepointe is small; it measures 120 cm x 120 cm and functions as an extra layer, on top of the blanket | duvet. In an old French Elle Decor I’ve found a description for preparing a courtepointe by hand. If you have no time to dedicate yourself to this old craftsmanship, you can always go for the alternative and that is a satin guilt. Herewith some shopping tips to purchase such a delicate bedspread:

This is a satin guilt to buy at Toast, click here for more info.

Habitat offers you two versions, the first one is hand stitched and quilted in putty stone white, the second one is in beetroot purple.

Pierre Frey is a manufacturer of fabrics, wallpapers, furniture and bedding. This chic French label offers you to create your own bedspread in any size, fabric and finishing you like. Click here if you are interested in your own design project.
Art Nouveau bed stand
September 8th, 2009

This is a detail of a late Art Nouveau bed stand, that is for sale at Robert Dusarduyn. This walnut piece of furniture has been adorned with the typical Art Nouveau floral decoration that is signed with a French name. We are not sure if the craftsman was Belgian or French, but we know for sure that Robert bought this bed stand from a Dutch household. Unfortunately there is no second version of this table in his collection, so the original function of a bed stand is questionable and in need for a creative alternative. We see this antique bed stand as a nice center piece for a tiled hall way or a dining room in combination with a colorful porcelain lamp base with a voluminous white lampshade. We looked for a matching lamp base and found an example at Habitat. See here: the Gogo.
