the Boundary, London

Fancy a London night in a hotel suite decorated with Mies van der Rohe furniture or inspired by the designs of Andre Putman? Have a look at the Boundary, one of Sir Terence Conran’s latest hospitality ventures. Just like his other developments in real estate, this hotel with a roof top restaurant, a bakery, a food store and many more is a testimonial of his strong belief in the alignment of architecture, design and food. This rewarded designer and founder of Habitat, created 12 spacious guest bedrooms each in a certain style. Have a look at the site and read his reviews on each room.

emilies colour scheme SS/10

In addition to my blog post about the Spring Summer 2010 colour palette, I would like to inspire you with some colouring that will spice up the rather timid tones in camel-, skin- and stones. For this blog post I’ve  been browsing through my favourite websites of Habitat, Antropologie, Vitra, Tom Dixon, Liberty, KA International and made up that yellow, orange, faded pomegrate, bottle green, smoked blue and grayish aubergine are the favourite tones to combine. Have a look and see if the screen dumps of the new lines will motivate you to get your interiors ready for spring!

Liberty

add Liberty

Liberty is iconic for its floral patterns and enriched cotton fabrics. The fabrics of Liberty are of good quality and the prints never lose their style. For the decoration of interiors I do prefer a less decorative design, therefore I like to visit the shop for their scarves and interiors. As a brand Liberty is strong for its creative partnerships with other designers like Luella Bartley, Ronnie Wood or fashion houses like Givenchy, Hermes and Fendi. In the beginnings of the last century the possession of a scarf was a woman’s necessity. Nowadays the scarf is becoming a fashionable accessory for the Western and Eastern cultures. Herewith some designs by Ronnie Woods, Hermes and Liberty’s own design team.

The last but not the least reason why I like to visit Liberty’s department store is for its interior design. The team that was responsible for the decoration of the store and the cafe’s did a good job in designing a light hearted atmosphere for each location. Have a look at Liberty’s café; the chairs by Patricia Urquiola combine perfectly with the ‘French’ cafe tables and the Tom Dixon lamps. The rather impressive papered walls do match well with the tribal design of the chairs and fifties look of the lamps and tables. All together the mix of the designer’s furniture, accessories and wall papers results in an airy and fresh café interior.

Probably the best advice is to travel to London and experience the Liberty Christmas decorations at their store.

Turkish hanging lamps

turkish hanging lamps Turkish hanging lamps

During our visit to the wholesale fair , we were surprised to see the comeback of an trend from the early nineties, the tin lamp from Turkey. This hanging lamp is decorative and lightweight. It is easy to get mixed up with the Moroccan version. The difference in the latter one is the appliance of colored glass. In this post we stick to the Turkish version, that is deliverable in different styles: as a hanging lampshade, a bowl and as a lantern. The costs of a Turkish hanging lamp differ from € 25 to € 75. And if you are savvy, you can get them for less in a souk or bazaar. To make a statement with this romantic lamp, we advice to buy a few of them and bundle them together. An example is ‘the Fluoro Cluster’ by Tom Dixon, an English rewarded designer. This year he launched ‘the Fluoro shade 2009 | 2010 collection’ during The Salone di Mobile 2009. We end this post with a tip; buy a few Turkish hanging lanterns or bowls and apply wax lights in different colors. Hang them in bundles in trees or in the ridge of a tent. Be aware that trees and tents will not catch fire and that tin lamps are not happy with damp and rain.
