Sarah Davison is an Australian Interior Designer and she is applying her collection of vintage glass bottles as vases. The visuals in this blog post are from the latest edition of Vogue Living and can give you a glimpse into her renovated home. The result of the makeover is a crisp but airy apartment adorned with Spanish elements. I think that Sarah was very successful in this renovation and decoration project for the reason that she created an intimate and relaxed atmosphere where light and people can move easily through the different quarters.

kitchen by Torsten Grimme

Last blog post was about Torsten Grimme decoration skills. Another example of his expertise is the result of his kitchen (see photo above). He combined an old shop counter with a stainless steel stove. This combination of old and new is possible by the neutral settings Grimme created in his kitchen. He plastered the walls white, tiled the floor in mediterrean terracotta and replaced the windows for ones that came from an old Belgian chocolate factory. These features create an industrial but warm environment where the stove is in its place. Below you’ll find some examples of kitchen interiors decorated with new & old elements.

15 minutes of pure bliss

detail loo 15 minutes of pure bliss

Each two months, I’ve a quarter of an hour, filled with pure bliss and caused by the arrival of a new edition of the Australian Vogue Living. The November edition covers an article about a Sydney apartment owned and decorated by Torsten Grimme, an antiques dealer. His home has been filled with African furniture and decorative objects. The photos of his house confirm his skills in composing still lives and his flair in the mix & match of styles. One example is the decoration of a bathroom. He lined the walls in grey mosaic tiles and chose for a grey marble hand basin. In order to fill this room with a warm glow, an old French gold framed mirror has been suspended above the basin.

This choice is rather remarkable and is to compare with the situation when a woman wears golden earrings together with other silver coloured accessories. In Holland we would say that this combination is like swearing in the church. But if the woman is wearing a top or a jacket, which tailoring or colouring brings gold and silver together, the woman is a stylist. Grimme did the same in his bathroom by applying accessories likes a perfume bottle, an old wine glass and a gold rimmed tray. He placed the pieces on ‘the planchet’ in such an order that the eye of a person that enters the bathroom fixes upon this stylish setting. From there on the person’s will see a harmonious view of cold grey and old golden tones.

Next blog post is about Grimme’s usage of an old shop counter and a new stainless steel kitchen stove.

Diane Bergeron

Vogue Living Australia September issue

In the latest edition of the Australian Vogue Living New Yorker Diane Bergeron presents her renovated warehouse in Melbourne. Here skills in combining patterns and colours are amazing. Like you can see in this visual; she dared to combine an Indian kelim pattern in mauve with a foliage ‘print’  in green tones. Due to the industrial atmosphere of her home the classic choice in furniture and its upholstering converges smoothly with the features  of her spacious warehouse. We love it for the reason that this fresh style enables you to mix antiques with new as well as retro design without the misconception for being boring or old fashioned. The last but not the least reason is the sense of humour that is to observe in Burgeron interiors. For us this is very important feature of a home; is will be complete if the inhabitants can relax and take life not too serious. Like the French say about their wardrobes: ‘La vie est trop courte de ‘s habiller triste!’

A new edition of Vogue Living Australia is out!

Next to the Milan 2009 report there are some inspiring interiors to marvel at. Vincent van Duysen is a Belgian Architect with the love for tacile use of materials. It took him 3 years to rebuild his nineteen century house in Antwerp. In his large and spacious living the windows and skylights have been upholstered with natural colored drapes and venetian blinds.

Those blinds are both decorative and functional. In our Amsterdam loft we’ve applied them as well for the reasons that they filter the sunlight and make the windows look less grotesque. Venetian blinds are to purchase a the official Luxaflex dealers and Ikea.

Vases

April 27th, 2009

vogue travel living au1 Vases

Vases colour your home. The form and colour of a vase can define the setting of a side table, piano, windowsill or mantelpiece. We believe that your home becomes personal when you develop a visual story of a nice place in your home. You can fill a side table with frames or you choose for just one vase, that is dictating for its form and colour. Even when the vase has not been filled with flowers or sprigs; it defines your still life. In New York we’ve checked the stores and found 2 vases that we would like you to show. The top visual is from the newest edition of the Australian Vogue Living (May/ June 2009), in which the 17th century English house of Gary Hume and Paula Rego has been displayed.
